11th Animation Film Festival "Animated Dreams"
"Animated Dreams" is the one and only international animation film festival in Estonia. It's a tiny, but strongly viable part of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Animated shorts were first screened in 1999 as preludes to the main features of the Black Nights Film Festival programme. So was born the first animation festival in Estonia, the country of 'a little big nation of animation'.
During past years "Animated Dreams" has been fortunate to welcome internationally acclaimed animation filmmakers, critics and historians like Bill Plympton, Giannalberto Bendazzi, Adam Benjamin Elliot, Heikki Jokinen, Phil Mulloy, Chris Robinson, Michaela Pavlatova not to mention just as praised Estonian animators Elbert Tuganov, Mati Kütt, Janno Põldma and Riho Unt. The festival patron is Priit Pärn, Estonia's best-known animator and professor of Turku Arts Academy and Estonian Academy of Arts animation departments.
Animation festival films are meant for young people and grown-ups (children films have been screened in another section of Black Nights Film Festival). "Animated Dreams" is for everybody, who is interested in alternative film experiences, stories with intriguing visual images and innovative new media technology.
