10th Student and Short Film Festival "Sleepwalkers"
The 9th Student and Short Film Festival Sleepwalkers is the only international student film festival in Estonia. Starting this spring, Sleepwalkers is organised in cooperation with the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and the Baltic Film and Media School.
Short films are a captivating art form, almost like a microcosm of the world of the major film industry. What’s more, the short film format is capable of producing the basic interest that draws people to cinema in the first place – either as a film-maker or a filmgoer. The goal of the festival is to promote and popularize the culture of short films and bring to the audiences some of the best films in the world. This year, 500 entries were received by Sleepwalkers, and the best of the best will be before viewers – 41 films from 23 countries, including experimental, documentary, animated and fiction films. The best film, selected by an international jury, will receive the Grand Prix, sponsored by Kodak and Digital Film Finland.
This year, Sleepwalkers is happy to introduce not only the latest student films from around the world and Estonian short films, but also Estonian music videos, Turkish short films and Europe’s best short films of the year – the Prix UIP programme gathers together the most outstanding works in European short film. Of the 14 nominees, Europe’s best short film will be picked at the European Film Academy awards gala in Copenhagen on 6 December.
